once there, he stripped off his jacket, picked up his drawing
pad and drew, pencil scribbling furiously on the white paper.
Until the phone rang.

Koji picked up on the second ring. "Moshi moshi. Naoto-
chan?" He sounded so anxious, as if he'd been waiting for
Naoto's call. Well, Koji couldn't have been more anxious than
he was.
Naoto leaned back against the wall and closed his eyes.
The mere sound of Koji's voice flooded him, made his body
erupt in tingles, like a boy with a crush. "Hai. It's me. What
are you doing right now?" he asked and immediately
regretted it. What if she was with him? What if ... shimatta ...
no ... Koji wouldn't jump into bed with her, would he? The
thought of her ... of anyone else ... lying next to Koji, naked,
was fucking unbearable. Shit, they'd only just begun and this
was going to drive him mad.
"I'm at home. I saw her to her parents' place and left."
"Oh." Naoto tried to sound unconcerned. "How ... was it?"
A heavy feeling settled over his chest. He'd been spoiled
having lived with Lee all that time, the way people who loved
each other should be able to. It was supposed to be that way.
Lovers together, sleeping curled up in each other's arms,
waking up to each other, first thing. Not like this.
"Nothing happened, Naoto-chan. I just ... wanted you to
know."
Relief prickled down Naoto's arms. Though the heaviness
in his chest remained. It was only a matter of time until Koji
wouldn't be able to say that, especially if he was going to
marry the woman. "It's all right," he murmured. Even though
really, it wasn't all right. How could he have been so casual,
so ... arrogant, when he'd told Koji they could handle the
situation this way? He sighed and sagged against the wall.

Cool spring air wafted through the back alley behind the
hotel, a spot he liked to go for breaks, to be alone. Only
tonight, he didn't really want to be alone. This spring night
was perfect weather for snuggling...
Naoto's dragon stirred as he pictured Koji's leanly muscled
body and flawless skin. His very hands itched to cradle Koji's
back as he kissed Koji hot and deep. Yet, just as quickly, his
arousal faded. Phone sex just wasn't good enough right now.
His entire body ached for Koji. Kuso. This was the crappiest
time to have a hotel full of guests. The weekend crowd only
cleared out in the evening. Until then, Kiku needed him. "I
wish I could come see you, Koji-chan," he said, "but ...
weekends are ... busy."
Koji's tension on the other end was nearly palpable.
"Naoto-chan?"
Naoto's chest tightened. "Yes?"
"Do you ... have you ... you know ... oh, I'm sorry. It's
none of my business."
Naoto pushed away from the wall and paced in the alley.
He knew what Koji was asking. This past week, he and Koji
had managed to avoid this conversation. Unfortunately, Naoto
hadn't been able to avoid sexual contact with a few guests.
Really, like Ryu's regulars, they'd been older, wanting only a
happy ending to their massage. After all, they were paying for
a certain experience...
"Koji-chan, will you still ... want me if I say I have? You
know the difference. I explained it to you." He heard the
pleading in his own voice. Not since Lee's death had he felt
quite so ... tormented.

"Of course I will. I understand."
Naoto halted and closed his eyes. He pulled in a deep
breath to steady his pounding heart. Finally he could speak
again. "I'd avoid it, if I could."
"I know."
"Koji-chan, I miss you."
"I miss you too."
He heaved a deep sigh. If he stayed outside too long,
someone would have to come looking for him. "I'm sorry. I ...
have to go in now. Can I call you later?"
"Yes. Don't worry what time it is. I want you to call."
Naoto sighed again. "I will. Bye." He clicked off and
opened the back door, wondering how the hell he was going
to make it through the weekend.
Koji pressed the end call button on his phone and sat back
against the sofa cushions.. His heart pounded and sweat
heated his armpits in spite of the cool night. He sighed and
set the phone down while that ... feeling ... that horrible
monster raked at his insides. Only the sincerity and conviction
in Naoto's voice soothed him. In all honesty, he himself, knew
there was a vast difference between a hand job and the
passionate lovemaking-sleeping together thing that he and
Naoto had.
Finally, he felt calmer, calm enough to retrieve his drawing
pad and make sketches of Naoto until his lover called him
again.

Chapter Thirteen
Saturday...
Koji opened his eyes. He went to lift his head and pain
shot through his neck. Rubbing the back of it with one hand,
he became aware of the position he'd fallen asleep in, sitting
up, his head tilted back against the cushions. As he rubbed
the stiffness out, he grew aware that it was morning and that
his drawing pad had slipped off his lap to the floor when he'd
fallen asleep.
A truck chugged down the street in front of his building,
the only sound in the quiet section of the neighbourhood. He
sighed and rubbed his neck a bit more. When it felt looser, he
started to rise and changed his mind. The heaviness he'd
fallen asleep with remained, like an invisible shroud over his
mind and heart.
He thought of Etsu and immediately the shroud darkened.
She'd smiled at him so much, believing he was interested in
her. Guilt squeezed in his chest.
Then he thought of Naoto. And craved Naoto's touch, the
hard, protective warmth of Naoto's brawn against him.
Just then his phone rang. Koji started and fumbled for the
phone. Naoto's name showed in the tiny window. As if Naoto
had sensed he was being thought about. He pressed the
button. "Naoto-chan, hi." His heartbeat sped up. "How are
you?"
"I miss you. That's how I am. You sound like you just woke
up. Did I wake you?"

Koji found himself smiling even though Naoto couldn't see
him. "You didn't wake me. Don't worry." Even this simple
conversation was good. Naoto's voice was a healing balm.
"Koji-chan, can I ... may I ... come see you today? Later?
Just for a little while. The afternoons are often quiet. I can get
away for a bit."
Koji's heart thumped. "Of course. I'd like that. When?"
"At two?"
Excitement skittered through him. "Yes, two o'clock. I'll be
here." On the other end, he heard a sound like a sigh of
relief.
"I can't wait to see you, Koji."
Koji smiled again. "Me too."
Naoto's happy feeling increased the closer he got to Koji's
building. Getting through the day until now had been difficult.
Koji saturated his mind and heart so much he had to summon
all his discipline to concentrate on whatever he was doing.
Letting himself inside, he headed for the stairs and nearly
collided with a man already on his way up.
"Excuse me. I'm sorry," Naoto murmured and bowed an
apology.
The man nodded in return and stood aside so Naoto could
bound past him. There was no time to waste. Every second
that passed was another second not spent with Koji. He ran
up all three flights of stairs and knocked loudly on Koji's door.
"Koji-chan, I'm here." Every nerve ending in his body tingled
in anticipation.

The door opened to reveal Koji's smiling face. Even in a
baggy T-shirt and grey sweatpants, he was hot. "Naoto-
chan."
Joy swept through Naoto. Thought melted away as he
stepped forward and grabbed up Koji's slimmer form into an
embrace. Koji pulled in a breath and laughed, but Naoto
captured the sweet rich sound with a kiss.
Yesssss ... Koji's mouth was velvety soft, delicious ...
Naoto slid his tongue against Koji's, tasted the moist warmth
with eyes closed. With their lips pressed together, he set Koji
down on his feet and pulled him closer, chest to chest. Koji's
